Healthy Holidays, Happy Holidays!

With the weather changing and the holidays approaching, we may begin thinking about how to keep our families and ourselves healthy, energetic and feeling the best throughout the winter season. Essential foundational steps include, adequate, quality sleep, healthy nutrient rich food with sufficient pure water intake, along with moderate daily exercise.

Sleep is very individual to the needs and schedule of each person. Hours before midnight are thought to be more restful than those after, so getting to bed earlier than later is the goal. Sleep in a dark room with no lighting to support the body’s natural sleep rhythm.

A general guide for water intake is half your body’s weight in ounces, drank slowly, in four to six ounce increments so as not to stress  the kidneys. Water is best taken away from food so as not to interfere with digestion. Drink the cleanest source of water that is available  to you.

To support the body nutritionally, eat a wide variety of food, close to its natural state; include green leafy vegetables, brightly colored fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats, seeds and nuts.

Prioritize your time to include at least thirty minutes of moderate exercise in your schedule. Park farther away from the grocery store, get up from your work desk frequently through out the day. Movement is essential to lymph drainage, which facilitates the release of toxins and metabolic waste.

Supplements make a wonderful addition to healthy lifestyle habits. The following are well known to boost the immune system and provide extra protection in times of need.
